Solar Power On All Time High
Over the course of 2014, solar power has seen a significant increase in popularity throughout Essex and other parts of the UK. Now more homeowners, agricultural/farm owners and commercial property owners than ever are enjoying the vast benefits of solar panel electricity in the U.K.
Over the course of the year the total solar power in the U.K. almost doubled in capacity going from 2.8GW to 5GW. Although we know the benefits and more and more people are seeing the benefit, here at Green Pulse Energy in Colchester, we saw this as a turning point. We therefore wanted to share with our customers in Essex and beyond, plus renewable energy enthusiasts alike, just why solar has grown in popularity over the past year and explore why it can be expected to continue.
When solar energy first started to gain pace in the domestic energy market back in 2010, it was more expensive than it is now, not nearly as efficient and unfortunately inaccessible to the majority of homeowners. Little was known about solar power; however, now, companies such as Green Pulse Energy are sharing knowledge and benefits of Solar in Essex and the UK.
What About Now
It’s 2015 and solar is readily available to the masses with advanced technology resulting in what we are now experiencing – a solar boom. Energy efficiency can be sustained by a single system for decades on end. Plus, it will only get better over the course of 2015.
With such advances in solar technology and the various payback incentives put in place the U.K. Government for homeowners, landowners and even commercial sites, it’s no surprise the UK general public are investing in solar. Even without these incentives, there is a whole host of benefits and reasons that support this huge increase in solar technology.
Save Money, Save Carbon
Low energy bills for a property for 60+ years is now very much achievable. Being able to lower your carbon emissions in this current climate where being conscious about sustainability and our environment is becoming an issue ever-more at the forefront of people’s agendas. Even being able to have energy independents to some degree is highly appealing; no longer are the owners of solar technology constantly reliant on energy companies who have time and time again come under public scrutiny for numerous reasons.
Clean Energy For Millions Of Homeowners
It is estimated that as of last year, around 21,000 arrays of solar PV in Essex alone have been installed. Now around 600,000-700,000 solar PV systems are currently installed across all platforms including domestic, commercial and agricultural in the UK. In fact, the solar sector could now power around 1.5M U.K. homes with green, renewable electricity. Now, with new products coming to the solar industry within the U.K., installs will be quicker, better looking and even much more efficient in terms of producing electricity.
Solar panels in the U.K. look to be the biggest and one of the most suitable technologies for achieving renewable energy goals. Technologies such as wind, although good, are not nearly as practical or accessible to the U.Ks population, nor are they as efficient when offset against cost.
Paul Barwell, CEO of the Solar Trade Association stated on the increase in solar power – “This milestone achievement is testament to the hard work of Britain’s several thousand solar businesses, almost all of them small and medium sized companies, who are all at the forefront of a real solar transformation as the technology steadily becomes one of the cheapest sources of clean, home-grown power.” He also added – “Solar clearly works in Britain. Panels in London generate 65% as much energy as in Madrid, and the panels work more efficiently in cooler temperatures.”
This is the advantage of solar over wind, it can be installed almost anywhere (even on water) and therefore the rural countryside and buzzing cities can enjoy the benefits of solar alike.
To conclude, if you’re thinking about having Solar PV in Essex or anywhere else in the UK as a matter of fact, you too could be part of the Solar Energy revolution currently happening in the UK. Let’s see the stats double again in 2015!
